TLC General Information
Principlec
Thin Layer Chormatography has long been over 100 years on of the most useful of chormatography. In TLC, an aliqout of sample solution is spotted on a porous layer of adsorbent material.
TLC Plate Formats
Layer Thickness
TLC plates are 250µm thick for regular analytical TLC and between 500 and 2000µm for preparative TLC. HPTLC have a thinner layer of adsorbent between 150-200µm. All thickness designations are nominal. Actual thicknesses may very but are consistent from batch to batch.
